DESCRIPTION:Leading Diverse Teams – LEAD220\nLearn in a classroom environment with your peers\, face to face or virtual with an instructor online. \nCourse Length:  1 day \nTarget Audience: General \nCourse Overview: \nThis interactive course equips leaders and managers with the knowledge\, skills\, and tools to effectively lead diverse teams. Participants will explore concepts of diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, unconscious bias\, and inclusive leadership practices to create high-performing\, psychologically safe teams. \nLearning Objectives: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of this 6-hour session\, participants will be able to: \n\nExplain core DEI concepts\nClearly define diversity\, equity\, and inclusion\, distinguish among them\, and describe how each one influences team culture\, engagement\, and results.\nIdentify the benefits and challenges of diverse teams\nRecognize how diversity strengthens innovation and decision quality\, while also naming common friction points that can emerge if inclusion is weak.\nRecognize unconscious bias in leadership decisions\nSpot typical bias patterns in hiring\, delegation\, communication\, performance evaluation\, and day-to-day interactions\, and describe their impact on fairness and trust.\nApply practical strategies to reduce bias\nUse at least three evidence-informed techniques (e.g.\, structured decision tools\, perspective-checking\, bias interrupters) to make more equitable leadership choices.\nDemonstrate inclusive leadership behaviors\nPractice communication and leadership approaches that promote belonging\, respect\, and accountability across differences (e.g.\, inclusive meetings\, equitable feedback\, shared voice).\nBuild psychological safety within their teams\nImplement specific leader actions that increase openness\, learning\, and candor\, and reduce fear of speaking up.\nRespond constructively to tension or conflict across differences\nUse a simple dialogue or conflict-navigation framework to address misunderstandings\, micro-exclusions\, or value clashes without escalating harm.\nCreate a personal inclusion action plan\nDraft a realistic 30–60 day plan with 2–3 commitments to strengthen inclusion\, equity\, and team performance in their own workplace.\n\n\nCourse Content: \n\n\n\n\n\nModule 1: Introduction & Setting the Stage (30 minutes)\n\n\nWelcome\, objectives\, and agenda overview\nImportance of diversity and inclusion in today’s workplace\nBenefits and challenges of leading diverse teams\nParticipant introductions and initial reflections (icebreaker activity)\n\n\n\nModule 2: Understanding Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion (45 minutes) \n\nDefinitions: Diversity vs. Equity vs. Inclusion\nExploring dimensions of diversity (visible and invisible)\nThe business case and ethical imperative for DEI\nGroup discussion: Sharing experiences with diversity in teams\n\nModule 3: Self-Awareness & Unconscious Bias (60 minutes) \n\nWhat is unconscious bias and how it affects leadership?\nIdentifying personal biases through self-assessments and reflection\nImpact of bias on team dynamics and decision-making\nStrategies to mitigate bias in everyday leadership\nBreakout activity: Bias recognition scenarios and group discussion\n\nModule 4: Building Psychological Safety & Inclusive Communication (60 minutes) \n\nConcept of psychological safety and its importance for diverse teams\nCommunication styles and adapting to diverse perspectives\nActive listening\, empathy\, and giving inclusive feedback\nRole-playing exercises: Practicing inclusive conversations\n\nModule 5: Inclusive Decision-Making & Conflict Management (45 minutes) \n\nInclusive decision-making frameworks\nRecognizing and addressing bias in hiring\, promotions\, and team decisions\nStrategies for managing conflicts constructively in diverse teams\nCase study: Analyzing a team conflict scenario\n\nModule 6: Leading Inclusive Teams & Allyship (45 minutes) \n\nCharacteristics of inclusive leaders\nBuilding trust and fostering belonging\nThe role of allyship: Supporting marginalized voices\nInteractive activity: Developing allyship action plans\n\nModule 7: Action Planning & Sustaining Change (45 minutes) \n\nRecap of key learnings\nDeveloping personalized action plans for leading diverse teams\nTools and resources for continuous learning and accountability\nGroup sharing of action plans and commitment pledges\n\nSupplement Material \nA student manual is available for the learner to follow during the instructor’s presentation. \nBenefits to the participants \nThroughout the activities\, the participants will gain a better understanding of how to lead a diverse team and the importance for the team to be unified to achieve the same goal. \nCourse Evaluation \n A course evaluation will be completed by the learners once the course is finished. \nNote: The course outline may be subject to change. \n
